Cannock Chase District

Cannock Chase is a local government district in England. It covers part of Cannock Chase forest and the towns of Cannock, Rugeley and Hednesford

Cannock Chase is located between Cannock, Lichfield, Rugeley and Stafford. It comprises a mixture of natural deciduous woodland, coniferous plantations, open heathland and the remains of early industry, such as coal mining.

Cannock

Cannock is a town in Staffordshire, England, just north of the West Midlands conurbation. It sits to the south of Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is administered as part of Cannock Chase district.

The Chase was once the expansive sweep of a great mediaeval royal hunting forest. Today it is a surprisingly remote area of high sandstone heather and bracken heathland with birch woodland and extensive pine plantations. Wild deer still roam the Chase, which is an important oasis in the urban Midlands. Its motorless zone, nature trails and reserves focus strongly on landscape and wildlife interest. 

Cannock lies on the M6 Toll, A34 and A5 roads, to the north of the Black Country (about 11 km) and south of Stafford (about 13 km). It is served by a railway station on the Chase Line. Its nearest towns and villages include Hednesford, Rugeley, Norton Canes, Great Wyrley, Cannock Wood and Burntwood.
