Joining our Waiting List

Picture of a tenant outside her house

We aim to provide good quality housing at affordable rents. Priority is given to people whose present accommodation and circumstances are unsatisfactory, and for whom suitable housing is not available at a cost within their means elsewhere.

Our Guide to Applying for Housing booklet gives details on the types of housing that we provide and examples of circumstances that would qualify you to join our waiting list such as:

  • The lack of your own home or families living apart involuntarily
  • The lack of basic facilities, such as kitchen or bathroom
  • Overcrowding
  • Potential homelessness
  • Serious ill health caused by your accommodation
  • Tenants with children living in flats
  • A specific need to live in a particular location
  • People over the age of 60
  • Other social needs or financial or special hardship

For full details please download the Guide to Applying booklet.

Transfers

If you would like to move to another property owned by us, you should complete a transfer application form. There is a waiting list of tenants wishing to move and we have to take into account the needs of new applicants on the waiting list together with transfer applicants. The transfer list is based upon a points system, with points being awarded to those in greatest need. Priority is also given to tenants with medical or social reasons for a transfer.

Mutual Exchanges

A mutual exchange enables tenants to move, by swapping their property with another tenant through an "assignment of tenancy". This allows a move to take place without the need to go through the Association's housing waiting list.

Ending your Tenancy

If you are moving to a new home you will need to formally end your tenancy. This must be in writing and signed by each person that signed your tenancy agreement. You must give us 4 weeks notice that you intend to end your tenancy and even if you move out before, you will be responsible for the rent for those 4 weeks. It is therefore important that you plan ahead.

To end your tenancy you can use our Termination of Tenancy Form.

Shared Ownership

Shared ownership or Homebuy is a way of helping people on low incomes to get on the housing ladder. Through the scheme you can buy a share of between 25% and 75% of a property and pay a rent on the remaining share you do not own.
