There were two winners at Housing Plus Group’s recent Employee of the Year ceremony – Involvement Officer, Penny Metzger who won the accolade, and Wolverhampton’s Compton Hospice – which became the organisation’s charity of the year.

Each year colleagues and customers of the Housing Plus Group are asked to vote for individuals who have successfully shown commitment to the Group’s key values; passion, trust, learning and customer focus.

Penny has worked for South Staffordshire Housing Association, a member of Housing Plus, for five years and was nominated for working with conviction and commitment. Her role as Involvement Officer is to work with residents and resident groups to ensure that they have a real impact on shaping services. Penny lives in Perton near Wolverhampton.

She was selected from 12 finalists, and as the winner, was asked to nominate a good cause to become the organisation’s charity of the year.

On her award, Penny says: “I am delighted and honoured to be chosen as the company’s Employee of the Year, if a little shell shocked! It is especially pleasing to know I was nominated by all the people I work with, within the business as well as our partners and customers, and that the work I am doing is really valued.

“I picked Compton Hospice because it provides such a vital service to the local community, offering care and support for patients with life limiting illnesses, their carers and their families. Compton currently have their ‘Raise the Roof’ appeal to raise £1 million towards the refurbishment of its in-patient and day unit facilities, and we will be planning lots of fundraising initiatives to help them towards this target.”

Debbie Griffiths, Chief Executive of Housing Plus adds: “Penny is a dedicated and enthusiastic employee who is committed to making a difference, and embodies all the values we as a business take seriously – passion, trust, learning and customer focus. She is a true ambassador for SSHA and the Housing Plus Group and her award is truly well deserved.”
