Essington residents with a keen interest in looking after their local community can take part in a Big Tidy Up of the village on February 19th.
Arranged by South Staffordshire Housing Association’s neighbourhood team, members of the group ‘Friends of Essington’ will help out on the day, in addition to other local residents and SSHA staff.
The Essington tidy up event is part of a national initiative which was launched last year by ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ to encourage people to come together and make a difference to the place where they live, work or study. To date, more than 12,000 Big Tidy Ups have taken place across England, and 90,000 bags of rubbish have been collected by over half a million volunteers.
The Essington Big Tidy Up starts at 10am from St John’s Church Hall on Hill Street and ends at 1pm.
Jackie Ilic of SSHA’s neighbourhood team says: “Last year’s event was well supported and we hope this year’s Tidy Up will be just as successful. Essington is a lovely place to live with lots of character and a real community feel and events such as this help to keep it that way.
“If anyone would like to join in and help out, just turn up, and we’ll provide all the protective clothing, gloves and bags – and most importantly tea and biscuits at the end!”
