Our Board

The Board of Management, has the sole responsibility for the Association's overall direction, and for ensuring that it has appropriate staff to achieve its strategy and plans and stated standards of service. Our Board of Management reflects a broad and varied cross section, with ordinary members, councillors and tenants.

Membership

The Board consists of eight members who all receive a nominal payment in recognition of their services plus reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses, such as travel costs.

Membership consists of:

  • Six Independent Board Members who are elected in staggered rotation for a three year period by the shareholding members of the Association.
  • One Local Authority Board Member who is nominated each year by South Staffordshire Council.
  • One Resident Board Member who is elected from the Tenant Partnership.
  • This mix is designed to provide the best possible service to customers with local council involvement, active tenant participation, and the active involvement of people who represent the local community, businesses, and professions.

Skills

Our Board Members collectively possess a multitude of professional skills, including accountancy, finance, banking, law, corporate management, housing management, together with a deep involvement in community activities.

A review of the skills and experience of the Board of Management takes place on an annual basis, with the Board assessing its collective level of experience in those skills identified by the Tenant Services Authority being generally necessary for running a registered social landlord. The Board seeks to fill gaps in this collective level of experience, by inviting nominations from interested shareholders for election to the Board of Management prior to each Annual General Meeting.

The Role of the Board of Management

The Board acts for and in the name of the Association, and retains ultimate control over all aspects of the Association's work and must ensure that its financial and legal responsibilities are fulfilled. The powers of the Board are wide and, although particular functions may be delegated to a sub-committee or to the Management Team and staff, the Board retains the responsibility for seeing that those functions are properly carried out.
