Award-winning teams unite to provide affordable housing in Staffordshire

Two successful teams will be working together to meet the challenges of providing affordable homes in South Staffordshire.

Housing Plus Group has appointed a new leadership team to head its award-winning housing development service. The changes follow the announcement that director Ursula Bennion is leaving the organisation to take up a new role as chief executive of Trent and Dove Housing Association.

Charlie Riley, previously head of development, has been promoted to assistant director. Her team will become part of a new directorate bringing together development and property services, led by Stephen Collins.

Housing Plus Group, delivering homes and services through South Staffordshire Housing Association (SSHA), Care Plus and Property Care, has become recognised as a national leader for the quality of new developments which are tailored to the needs of residents and the landscape of South Staffordshire. Pencric, its ambitious new extra care scheme opened in 2014, was named the country’s Best Care Complex in the prestigious Pinders Awards and won Midlands Development of the Year for the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Charlie Riley said: “This is a really exciting time for the organisation, with developments in our two key priorities of providing affordable housing in rural communities and meeting the challenges of helping an ageing population live independently, for longer. Close links with our asset management and property care teams have already played a part in the success of our new developments and I am looking forward to building on those achievements by working even more closely with Steve and his colleagues.”

Stephen Collins joined Housing Plus Group as director of Property Services, which is another award-winning part of the Group. He now heads the expanded directorate of Development and Property. Steve said:

“There is nothing more exciting than picking up the keys to a new home, whether you are a young family able to live and work in the local community because of affordable housing or an older person given new independence in a home that better meets their needs. That is what makes our role so hugely rewarding. I’m delighted to be increasing my involvement in Development and working with a fantastic team. I think customers will see real benefits from the integration of all our specialist property services.”

Debbie Griffiths, chief executive of Housing Plus Group, congratulated Steve and Charlie on their joint appointment and looked forward to exciting developments for the organisation and its customers: “These are two award-winning teams who are going to achieve even better results together and deliver even better homes for South Staffordshire.”
