Chief executive shows the way for new apprentices

Four new apprentices had a surprise welcome to their workplace from the chief executive, herself a former apprentice.

The four new recruits were joining Property Care, part of Housing Plus Group in Staffordshire. They were greeted at the Group’s Acton Gate head office this week by CEO Debbie Griffiths, who is a strong advocate for the value of apprenticeships for young people, employers and local communities.

The fantastic four are Electrical apprentices Liam Davies, Alex Mackay and Katie Douglass and Business Administration apprentice Meg Lowndes.

Debbie Griffiths has been a huge supporter of apprenticeships as a pathway into successful careers for young people. She personally mentored Neighbourhoods & Tenancy Officer Claire Smallwood during her apprenticeship and was on-hand to welcome the newcomers and wish them luck at the beginning of their training with the Group:

“Apprenticeships are an excellent way for ambitious, enthusiastic and talented young people to take the first steps into rewarding careers. By offering high quality apprenticeships we can support local employment as well as building the future of our own organisation,” she said.

Liam, Alex and Katie will study towards industry qualifications at Stafford College, which worked in partnership with Property Care to identify bright sparks on its electrical courses. Meg’s learning is being delivered by the Babington Group, which is one of the UK’s leading specialists in apprenticeships and training courses.

“It is an exciting time for our new apprentices and a proud moment for Property Care,” said Andrew Kenny, senior operations manager at Property Care. “Meg, Liam, Alex and Katie came through a rigorous selection process and I am confident that they have a bright future ahead. Meeting Debbie and knowing that our CEO began her own career as an apprentice underlined for them that there are no limits to how far they can go with ambition, qualifications, experience and determination.”
