Housing association’s donation is a clear winner

A girls’ football team has been given a boost thanks to a donation from a local housing provider.

South Staffordshire Housing Association (SSHA) bought training tracksuits for Bilbrook Ladies, an under-13s girls’ team, as part of its commitment to supporting community groups, clubs and organisations.

Dad Chris Bird, whose daughter Jessica, 12, plays for the team applied for the funding.

Chris is a carpenter for the Housing Plus group, which SSHA belongs to, so he had heard about the sponsorship scheme.

Projects to have been awarded funding previously, include family fun days organised by Wombourne Kids of South Staffordshire Making It Count (KOSSMIC), an emergency services’ ‘React’ initiative and a village walk arranged by the Friend of Essington.

Janet Goode, director of customer services at SSHA, said: “We’re delighted to support the team which encourages youngsters to get involved in grassroots sport.

“We know the tracksuits will help the players feel smart and give them extra pride in what they’re doing.

“Clubs like this are important to our communities and we’re proud to have our logo on the kit.”

Dad Chris said: “It can be hard to get support for girls’ teams and they just needed a bit of a boost. We made it to the Cup Final this month so we’re starting as we mean to go on!”

The team currently plays 9-a-side but they’re joining the Staffordshire League next season so will need to field an 11-a-side team.

Currently the squad has just 11 members so new recruits are needed. To find out more visit www.bilbrookjuniorfc.co.uk
