Residents shape the future of affordable housing

30 attend SSHA and SARH resident event

Residents in Staffordshire wanting to have a greater say in how their homes are managed came together to shape the future of affordable housing.

Leading housing providersSouth Staffordshire Housing Association (SSHA) and Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) organised an event for residents involved in scrutinising how housing providers deliver services.

Up to 30 residents from Staffordshire, Shropshire, Walsall and South Cheshire came together to discuss how they can continue to shape the future or affordable housing and share good practice.

Housing providers Aspire Housing, Staffordshire Housing, Severnside Housing, Wrekin Housing Trust, whg and Shropshire Housing Group attended the event hosted by SSHA and SARH to discuss resident scrutiny.

Changes to how affordable housing providers are regulated, mean that residents now have a greater say in the performance of their landlords by scrutinising services and activity, and recommending ways they can be improved.

One SSHA tenant scrutiny panel member, Julie Moorhouse, said: “I really enjoyed the day and it was good to meet tenants from other organisations to share ideas and good practice. We all do things differently but all want to improve services and how our landlords operate.”
