Show home for £13million housing scheme launched

Penkridge residents are being given the first glimpse inside a £13million housing with care and support scheme in the village.

People interested in Pencric, a new housing with care and support scheme in Penkridge will be able to see first-hand the quality apartments in the scheme thanks to a new state-of-the-art show home The show home, a replica with the interior made to the same size and specifications as a two-bedroom Pencric apartment, is now open for people to view by appointment for a guided tour.

At a launch event for the new show home, one of the first residents to reserve a shared ownership property, Mrs Ilene Crosby, was given an exclusive preview of what the homes will be like.

Mrs Crosby, a Penkridge resident who has reserved a shared-ownership apartment at Pencric, said: “It is fantastic to see the show home and experience what the interior of the homes are going to look like. I am very impressed with the quality and the homeliness of the apartments. I am very much looking forward to moving in.

“The development is a great addition to Penkridge and will provide more homes for older people. At first I was unsure whether it was an affordable option for me, but having sat down with the team at Pencric I know it is within my means and I will have the care and support I need.”

The 82-home complex, which has modern purpose built one and two-bedroom apartments, is due for completion in Spring 2014. There are 50 apartments available for rent, 25 for shared ownership (part rent – part buy) and seven for outright sale. Reservations are now being taken.

Pencric is designed for people mainly aged 55-plus, or younger people with a need for care and support.

Care Plus, which is part of Housing Plus Group along with South Staffordshire Housing Association, will be managing the scheme. It will provide options for care and support packages tailored around residents’ needs and wishes to ensure they retain their independence and have an enhanced quality of life.

The modern apartments will be within an attractive, light and airy building that will also include a café, restaurant, hair and beauty salon, gym for use by residents and the wider community, and a licensed bar.

Jo Grainger, assistant director of Care Plus, said: “We are delighted with the level of interest in Pencric, with homes quickly being reserved. I’m sure that the show home will continue to build on this interest as people are able to see the quality of the apartments.

“Pencric is a suitable housing option for people who are looking for a home where they can live independently with the reassurance of care and support when they need it. It is specifically for people who live Penkridge or have a strong connection to the village.

“As a local employer, Care Plus will be creating jobs once the scheme is ready to open. We hope that these will provide employment opportunities for local people.”

The £13million project is receiving £1.14million investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), and £1.1million from South Staffordshire Council, as well as a donation of land, to provide homes for the rapidly growing number of older people in the district requiring care and support.
