Young and old coming together for charity military fashion show

Tickets are on sale for an intergenerational military-themed fashion show in Penkridge to raise money for a national charity supporting wounded servicemen and women.

People are invited to the fashion show on Wednesday, March 28, at Wolgarston High School, with cash raised going to the charity Help for Heroes and other local charities.

The event is being organised by Penkridge Impact Group, which was set up to bring older and younger people in the village together by breaking down age barriers which can divide communities. The Group includes Staffordshire Police, South Staffordshire Housing Association (SSHA), Staffordshire Youth Service and Staffordshire District Council Leisure Services.

Younger people have ‘buddied’ up with older people to make military-themed clothes and both age groups will model them on the night.

There will be military-themed equipment, including a vehicle, on display at the show, as well as displays of memorabilia from local history groups and the British Legion.

Jackie Ilic, neighbourhood involvement officer at SSHA, said: “The young and older people are working really hard together to make the fashion show a huge success. We would love as many local people to come as possible and show their support.

“The older people are sharing their life experiences, such as war memories, with the younger people to come up with some creative outfits that are going to be modelled on the night. They are very excited about this project and are looking forward to showcasing their hard work and raising money for charity.”

A calendar of photos of the younger and older people modelling the outfits will be available for people to buy at the event and afterwards, with a donation from the cost of the calendar going to Help for Heroes.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions (children and OAPs) and are available from Wolgarston High School or call PCSO Andy Poxon on 07815 966910. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
