Paying your rent is a key part of the tenancy agreement you have with us. It is your responsibility to make sure that your rent is paid on time – whether you pay your rent yourself or it is paid by someone else, including housing benefit.
If you are struggling to pay your rent, talk to us. We can work together to try to ensure that you don’t fall into rent debt and risk losing your home.
The rent that you pay covers the cost of repairs and maintenance, helps us to provide new homes in local communities and means that we can invest in improvements such as new kitchens, bathrooms and energy efficient boilers.
You can view a copy of the 2018/19 rent calendar which lets you know when your rent is due and, if applicable, indicates any rent free weeks you may have.
Listed below are the range of different ways you can pay your rent and details about our new bank sort code.
SSHA's new bank sort code is 20-97-86
Our sort code has changed because SSHA has its banking services provided by Barclays Bank, who are affected by Banking Reforms, along with most of the other UK Banks. This means that sort codes will need to change for some customers, SSHA being one.
If you make payments to SSHA by standing order or online banking then you need to take action now and update the sort code information to ensure your payment reaches us.
Direct debit payments details will automatically change to the new sort code so you do not need to take any further action.
Please don’t worry if you have recently sent a payment to the old details. Payments will be re-directed to the new details automatically. However, this is only for a limited time period so it is important that you update your payment details as soon as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your co-operation.
Most customers find that the easiest way to pay their rent is by direct debit. It is convenient and gives you the peace of mind that your rent will be paid on time. You can choose a regular payment date between 1st and 28th of each month to suit your circumstances.
You can find a direct debit form in the Welcome Pack you received at the start of your tenancy, or call our customer services team on 01785 312000 to set up a direct debit over the telephone with you.
Standing orders offer another convenient way to pay your rent. Set up your payment using a standing order form (available from us) and make sure that you include your rent reference number. Remember, though, that you will need to adjust the payment amount when you receive your annual rent review letter to avoid overpayment or arrears.
You can pay your rent by swipe card at any of the 28,000 PayPoint terminals in convenience stores, newsagents, supermarkets, garages and Post Offices.
To locate the most convenient place for you to pay your rent in this way visit www.paypoint.com
You can pay your rent over the telephone during office hours, using a debit or credit card. To do this, call our customer services team on 01785 312000. Please note that we charge a £2 administration fee for payments made by telephone to cover some of the costs of taking payments this way.
You can pay your rent by cheque. Cheques can be sent by post to:
South Staffordshire Housing Association
Acton Court
Acton Gate

Please remember to write your name, address and tenancy reference number on the back of the cheque, to make sure that the payment is credited to your account.
